Routing

In order to make the pieces as perfect as possible, the plan was to use the templates to guide a flush trim router bit along the ebony (this would also work to make multiples of the same piece). To do this, I first used sticky-backed foam tape to adhere the templates to the wood.

I then cut off the excess material with the scroll saw, cutting as close to the template as possible. I then installed a 3/4 inch CMT flush trim router bit in my router table and began slowly trimming each piece to size.

Since the router bit was brand new (I used the old one to cut aluminum on Yuugou) it cut beautifully and left a great edge on the ebony.

I routed the pieces at random but eventually they started coming together and after a couple long days, they were all completed (well mostly, as you might notice some MDF pieces are still in the picture).
